680 // a hope exposed // #poemoftheday #advent

I do not know
if I have ever walked out of a year
with my heart as raw
as this season has left it;

bruised and aching,
and yearning for a certainty
I’m sure I used to have.

one thing remains
as I stumble after grace –
a hope exposed
beneath still tender wounds,

that in this darkness
Love will light my lamp,
and against the pressing black,
even the smallest flame
can overcome.

461 // mother t. (a meditation on faithfulness) // #poemoftheday

I face these days,
wondering if the night
will swallow me?
wondering
if I can smile at the dark
and trust your hand?

for fifty years
she spoke of Love,
yet felt no love warm her;
spoke of light,
yet lived in darkness.

bereft
until she was emptied of
everything
but the longing
that consumed her,

she did not wait
for the night to pass,
but devoted herself
to be love,
to be light,
to be faithful ’til the end,
and changed the world.

Love, if I must walk
in shadow to be a light,
do with me as you will.

457 // hold on // #poemoftheday

in the darkness of unmaking,
in the slow unravelling
that causes even the ground
beneath your feet to be
unsteady,

it is easy to forget
that you have ever seen the sun,
that it’s warm light has ever
kissed your face,
that joy once walked with you, and
hope thrummed underneath it all.

don’t doubt in the dark
what you knew in the light;
seasons turn, and this winter
will give way to spring.

hold on,
a brighter day is coming.

446 // aspirational wannabe // #poemoftheday

I want to be the girl
who sees the magic
in everything,

the girl who is mesmerised
by the miracles present in
every ordinary moment.

I want to be the girl
who can be layed low
by the darkness,
but still trust whole-heartedly
in the faithfulness of Love.

I want to carry hope
like a light, wherever I go,
and if the night is all there is,
I will shine with the fire
of a million stars.

412 // incandescent //

you may feel small,
like you stand, invisible,
while the world
rushes on without you.

it may feel like
your battles go unrecognised,
your victories unapplauded,
and you wonder what
you’re fighting for anyway.

but Love chose you,
for this time,
for this place,
to shine brightly.

no one has a light
like yours,
you are incandescent!

356/365 // choose life //

do not ask where the light is –
it is not far off from us,
not floating among the satellites
orbiting our woundedness,
it is not bubbling beneath our feet
in the molten centre of
our shared home.

Love lays curled within
every one of us,
longing to ignite our lives
and leap from our lips
so we can blaze, the way
we were always meant to;
Life is waiting for us
to choose her.

made of stardust
we are light,
and in our hearts
are the roads to zion
